Kicking off this new year with quite a splash Governor Andrew Cuomo announced his intention to overhaul JFK Airport in Queens, as well as the highways and modes of public transit that lead to it. According to the Gothamist, Cuomo also discussed a possible Jamaica Station overhaul, calling for a “much more sleek and modern experience” at the AirTrain transfer point—a “climate-controlled environment, with improved information about flights.”
Last year Cuomo made headlines with the announcement of the LaGuardia airport redevelopment, featuring a new central terminal, at an estimated cost of $4 billion, with an additional $3 billion in airline investments. The new Laguardia central terminal is expected to open in 2021.
These projects coupled with the soon to open East Side Access from Jamaica Center that will offer commuters direct access to Grand Central Station in addition to Penn Station, will surely be a huge boost to the Queens Real Estate Market. Look out Kings County, for Queens is becoming a force to be reckoned with.
